Creating of a brand Format is directly related with the name of Sergei Izhboldin. International Master of Sports, repeated the USSR and Russia champion, he was a real bicycle guru. He was interested in developing of cycling in Perm and Russia, the organization of the competitions, improving the design of cycles. Therefore, Sergey was invited to the company for the position of technical director to create a new product and a new brand of bicycles.
New bike brand was called Format. Under the leadership of Sergei Izhboldin there were developed the first design frames. The main aim gets the creation of such bikes, which you can use to take part in races of the highest level, including the Olympics.
Format was first introduced to the market. The first serial products - three series of mountain bikes - are manufactured. The total number of models is 18. The start of deliveries to Russian stores is begun; in this connection 2006 is considered the year of the official Format appearance.
There was established the first professional team in Russia Format Udmurtia. Specialization is cross-country discipline, part of the Olympic program.
The Format Udmurtia team gets the status of a professional team in the International Cycling Union (UCI) and successfully participates in European competitions.
It’s continued development and promotion of the model range of the brand in Russia and China.
The 14th of September is a black day in the history of the company and the Russian cycling. Plane crash interrupts the life of Sergei Izhboldin and CEO Alexander Ignatiev.
It was made a decision to resume sales in Russia.
March 2014 – manufacture launch in Perm and market launch in Russia. The model range includes mountain bikes and road racing cycle, cycles for women, teen’s and children's series.
Design department is working hard to develop new models. The result is an extended range of bikes with wheels 29" and 27.5", and improved road bikes with disc brakes. It should be noted also a particularly successful model for four-cross.
In the Russian championships Format riders won four gold medals in the disciplines of the Olympic cross-country, cross-country eliminator, downhill and four-cross (4X).
Russian national team athletes on Format bicycles participated in the races of the world championships 2015 in Andorra and Italy, appeared in cross-country and four-cross.
Anniversary year. The brand's history has passed the 10-year mark. The Format Bicycle collection consisted of 5 Bicycle categories and included more than 60 models.
In 2016, the Moscow-based team Desporte became part of the brand's history. Riders competed in the 4X, DH, Pump Track and BMX-Racing disciplines. The team, founded in 2014, has already won first places in the Russian Championships and cups. Yakov Auster took part in the development of the racing frame for the 4X Format 9210 disciplines. Yuri Rozov participated in the tests of the new trail suspension.
Roman Galimzyanov entered the top 10 of the strongest BMX riders in Russia. Roman, together with the design Bureau, improved and updated the geometry of the 32 series of Format bicycles. The frame on the basis of which the production models were assembled has been tested by numerous contexts throughout Russia. Anna Skubina became the quadruple champion of Russia on the downhill.
Popularization of Cycling in Russia has become a priority. The company actively supported local riders: so in the championship of Siberia, the brand's honor is defended by Vladislav Baginsky.
The trail bike line was divided into 2 parts and received an aggressive geometry with combat attachments, new standards and technologies were applied, so for the first time trail bikes received Boost standard bushings and 2.8-inch wide tires. In 2017, the Roll All Day team was involved in the gravity tests of the Format bike line.
Together with the factory racing team Format Udmurtia, tests were carried out on the carbon frame Format 1110. We passed tests of a radically new geometry of the 11xx prototype bike, the XC Niner, which allows you to ride stably and aggressively.
Roman Galimzyanov, a member of the FormatBMX team, was invited to the Simple Session for the first time as one of the strongest riders in Russia. Alina Cherkasova took 1st place in the bikejoring world Cup on a Bicycle Format 1122.
The year marked by the new development vector. The company formulated its positioning aimed at professional and conscious Amateur sports, and began cooperation with the Italian communications and design laboratory "Metalli Lindberg". The goal of cooperation is to reflect the brand values as accurately as possible and prepare the brand for entering the European market.
The #108ADV team, represented by Dmitry Labutin and Vasil Bulatov, made a bike tour of the North-Western part of Norway on bicycles Format 5221 and 2322. Roman gilimzyanov took Part in the BMX world Cup and entered the top 20 best riders in the world.
Yuri Rozov, a member of the Desporte team and an official Format dealer, took part in the Ironstar race at the first carbon road race Format 2211.
